surgery is a life changing event and the Weight Loss Clinic team
provides detailed patient information to inform you fully about
the benefits, alternatives and risks of weight loss surgery
before proceeding to treatment, to help you make your decision
without pressure.
After your consultation
You will receive a
detailed summary of the issues you discussed and treatment
options considered together with the Consultant's
recommendation. A full estimate of any costs will also be
included. Again, you will be reminded of the risks involved, and
given pre and post operative care instructions.
It is essential
that you make an informed decision based on sound professional
advice and we encourage you to make the decision that is right
for you. If you have further queries, we would be very happy to
arrange a further consultation at no additional charge.
Booking your operation
If you decide to
proceed with weight loss treatment, our Patient Care
Co-ordinator will make all the arrangements and you will receive
detailed written information about the procedure and preparation
for surgery. A deposit is not necessary, although payment will
be required before treatment begins.
Preparing for
surgery
If you are having a general anaesthetic, our Consultant
Anaesthetist will meet you for a full anaesthetic assessment
which will include blood tests.
Our Specialist
Nurse will contact you to complete the detailed medical
questionnaires and provide information about how to prepare for
treatment.
You will also meet
with one of our Dieticians for a lifestyle assessment.
Gastric band
patients will receive a pre-operative hamper, to help manage
your diet in the week before surgery. An appointment will be
made for you with our Clinical Psychologist to discuss your
proposed treatment.
The day of your
treatment
Your safety is our
primary concern and you will be cared for by a highly qualified
professional team throughout your treatment and aftercare.
You will be seen
before treatment to confirm the procedure that will take place.
Every effort will be made to ensure you feel as relaxed and
comfortable as possible during your short hospital stay and Mr
Hewin will check on you regularly before visiting you prior to
your discharge.
Aftercare
We provide a comprehensive personalised aftercare service that
is tailored to your needs and the treatment you have received.
We contact you regularly in the first few days until you feel
confident with the treatment and comfortable with the changes to
your day to day life. We provide a 24 hour emergency service,
and provide detailed written and face to face to support with Mr
Hewin and the Registered Dieticians at regular intervals to help
you succeed in your weight loss journey.
