Our team

Weight loss is an emotional as well as physical issue.
Our dedicated team is privileged to make a life-changing
and life-enhancing difference for so many people.

David Hewin

A consultation with a bariatric consultant surgeon is the best way to determine if you are a candidate for weight loss surgery. Your consultation will help you make an informed decision about the choices available to you.

Weight Loss Clinic’s experienced bariatric surgeon, David Hewin BSc MD FRCS, is a consultant general surgeon in Gloucestershire specializing in laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery including surgical procedures for obesity. Having qualified in medicine from Bristol University, he trained in surgery both in the UK and abroad and is now a fully qualified and accredited general surgeon with a special interest in upper gastrointestinal surgery and is developing NHS as well as private obesity surgery services in Gloucestershire.

Mr Hewin’s major clinical interests include surgery for obesity, oesophageal cancer, reflux disease, gallstones and hernias.

Mr Hewin trained in obesity surgery with internationally renowned Vincent Frering in Lyon, France and has carried out further weight loss surgical training in Paris and Rome. He is a member of the British Obesity Surgery Society and has presented obesity surgery research at national and international meetings. He is an elected trustee of the British Obesity Surgery Patient Association where he is committed to working through them for greater accessibility to and affordability of weight loss surgery.

General Physicians GPs

As an alternative to surgery, our General Physicians (GPs) devise weight management programmes for overweight and obese men, women and children. They take a long term approach to changing attitudes, habits and values, working with patients to develop a personalised plan of action which includes diet, exercise and medication.

Clinical Psychologist

Our Clinical Psychologist is skilled in psychological assessment and therapy, specialising in health conditions and addiction. She will work with you (and family members if required) to help identify any underlying psychological issues and recognise triggers and unhelpful patterns that might impact on your weight loss progress.

Consultant Anaesthetists

Our Consultant Anaesthetists all have wide ranging expertise in the field of general anaesthesia and considerable experience in anaesthetising patients for weight loss surgery. They will meet with you for a detailed pre-operative assessment and provide specialist care around the time of your operation.

Theatre and Hospital Team

Your safety is our primary concern. If you are planning weight loss surgery, experienced theatre staff assist the Consultant Surgeon and Consultant Anaesthetist throughout. The hospital team will take care of your medical needs and monitor your progress until you are discharged.

Radiologist

Our lead radiologist provides expert analysis of post-operative x-rays.

Specialist Nurses

Our Specialist Nurses are experienced NHS senior nurses, fully trained in the specialist weight loss surgery techniques. Both have particular expertise in the preoperative preparation and postoperative support of people having laparoscopic surgery.

Registered Dieticians

While anyone can call themselves a dietician or nutritionist, our Registered Dieticians are qualified and registered with the British Dietetic Association. Our dieticians have particular expertise in obesity, diabetes and weight management. They will help prepare you for the lifestyle changes you will need to make, and support you with valuable advice and guidance throughout your aftercare programme.
